the unicorn song

You like this song a lot. Especially when I sing it with an Irish accent.

temper, temper

Your temper has been out of control for the last couple days. Last night in the car, you screamed bloody murder almost the whole way home, for no apparent reason. Of course, "out of control" for you is probably other kids' "normal" but it's pretty unnerving to have you losing your cool so vocally when we can't find anything in particular that is wrong.

I hope you get over what's bugging you soon and bring back the sweet baby. This yeller is starting to frustrate.

clara at 11 months

Dear Clara,

Now you are 11 months old. You are an unstoppable force of investigation. You are an expert crawler and you love taking walks around the house with us. You can stand on your own and take hesitant steps to bridge the distance between one side of the couch and the other.
You like going outside now that it is warm enough. You are fascinated with this whole new universe of stuff to pick up and put in your mouth. You seem to prefer concrete to grass and love the wind ruffling your hair.
You are no longer content to passively be fed. You close your mouth and shake your head if approached with a spoon more than a couple times, but love to feed yourself. This has caused mealtime to become a rather messy situation, but you love nothing more than to pick up a noodle and mash it into your mouth with your whole fist. We are still working on learning how to drink out of a cup. This weekend, a cup with a straw will arrive and maybe that will work better.
Your fun new skills this month include:
  • waving hello and goodbye
  • standing on your own
  • carrying toys around in your mouth like a puppy
  • hugs and kisses!

You are beginning to have mood swings. You are still generally the sweetest baby in the land, but maybe once a day, you just get really mad about something and yell and scream about it for a couple minutes. Afterward, it's like nothing ever happened.

Next month is your first birthday. You will graduate to the toddler room at daycare. We will have a big party and invite all your friends, both the old and the young.

Love,

ma ma ma ma
